Borders
I strongly urge you to go to Twitter and read the conversation I just had about the Arizona immigration law SB 1070 with Michael Deppisch. His handle is @deppisch and mine is @daniel_clay.
Michael made that video about the Nashville flood that went sortof viral right after the flood happened. He does nice work and the video showed real compassion for the people in his city. Appropriately, the film got a good bit of press.
Recently Michael made this comment on Twitter: “GOOD GOD. Would someone tell me why Arizona’s new immigration law is a BAD thing?” Well, I eventually responded and we got into a short, fractured (Twitter) debate which you can read now.
Michael evidently feels that SB 1070 is in fact a good thing. I disagree for a myriad of reasons. I hope you’ll check it out and if you’re a tweeter chime in if you want.
One interesting thing is that our tweeting ended with Michael asking me to call him. I declined to do so because, frankly, I think we were both getting a little testy and the last thing I want to do is have a phone argument about politics with a guy I don’t even know.
More importantly, however: he put his initial query to the greater public, I answered in public, and I think it would be a travesty for that conversation to leave the public sphere.
I hope you’ll check it out. Also hope you’re keeping up with the issue at hand. Here’s the link to the PDF of SB 1070 which becomes law, I believe, in less than a month. http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf
